When is the best time to visit Kyrgyzstan?

June to September is the main season for trekking, horse riding and yurt stays: mountain passes are open and herders are on the summer pastures. May and October suit Bishkek, Issyk-Kul and lower valleys.

Do I need a visa?

Citizens of many countries can visit Kyrgyzstan without a visa for a limited stay. Rules change, so please check the current requirements for your passport with the Kyrgyz embassy before you book flights.

Is Kyrgyzstan safe for travelers?

Kyrgyzstan is generally a welcoming country for visitors. On our tours a local guide travels with you, and we plan routes, drivers and camps in advance. Check your government's travel advice before you go.

What currency is used, and can I pay by card?

The currency is the Kyrgyz som (KGS). Cards work in Bishkek and larger towns; in villages and yurt camps bring cash.

How fit do I need to be?

It depends on the tour. Each tour page shows a difficulty level, and the day-by-day itinerary lists walking or riding hours. Write to us if you are unsure which tour suits you.
